Description
Summary:Pilots in manned aviation shall "See and Avoid" other aircraft in front of and beside the own aircraft. "Sense and Avoid" (S&A) systems shall enable the operation of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in controlled airspace by fulfilling this "See and Avoid" task. One main sensor of such a sense and avoid system is the radar. The crux in developing an S&A radar is to minimize size and weight while maintaining the desired performance. The radar system has to search quickly for small targets in a large angular field of view in a high range. It shall deliver tracks with a high angular rate measurement accuracy and a high update rate. In this paper an S&A radar demonstrator is described and first test and integration results are shown.
