Description
Summary:Pipeline is a widely used circuit structure for high performance digital system designs. This paper presents designs of an energy-efficient and high performance 2-phase asynchronous micropipeline utilizing a one-shot pulse generator in its handshake controller, and its variant with more relaxation in timing constraints. The cycle time and energy consumption of the micropipelines are analyzed and assessed by HSPICE simulations. The simulations are carried out by using 90nm CMOS technology taken from a Predictive Technology Model (PTM). The simulation results show that our 2-phase bundled-data protocols can achieve higher energy efficiency and higher performance than those of the micropipeline in [6].
