Summary: | In this paper a simple, compact ultra wide band planar octagonal radiator fed by a simple 50 ohm microstrip line is proposed. By investigating the patch size and ground plane size, the antenna is properly designed to have a very wide bandwidth covering the whole FCC allocated ultra wide band. Due to the additional patch underneath the radiator at a proper position, the bandwidth can be further increased towards the lower side of the frequency spectrum. The antenna size is 60*45*1.6 mm*mm*mm. The antenna parameters and performances have been investigated through a large amount of EM simulations. It has been demonstrated that the proposed antenna provides an ultra wide bandwidth from 2 GHz-12.7 GHz completely covering range set by the FCC for UWB operations. |
