Summary: | Combining the Internet with a geographic information system (GIS) provides a way of sharing geographical data remotely from the various locations without replication of the databases or the GIS software. An advanced raster map, VRRG (vectored restored raster graphics), and its compression algorithm for CVRRG (compressed VRRG) are introduced and it is shown how the CVRRG data could be manipulated in developing the GIS software which can support interactive geographic information efficiently over the World Wide Web using the client-side programming technique based on Java. As a result, this research shows that the CVRRG data are very useful and convenient for developing Web based GIS applications. |
