Summary: | Collaborative distribution is an alternative which is expected to be able manage the increased demands due to for example increasing population in urban cities. One form of collaboration is by sharing vehicles to deliver goods. Therefore the selection of vehicle types in the delivery process needs to be considered in support of successful implementation of collaborative strategy. This paper presents an empirical study of the use of different types of vehicle, i.e. heterogeneous vehicles, in Yogyakarta city, Indonesia for investigating the effectiveness of collaborative distribution. Three scenarios were evaluated, i.e. scenario without collaborative strategy, and scenarios with collaborative strategy based on distribution center's capacity. The results showed that selecting proper vehicles in collaborative distribution can have reduction in total traveled distance as well as total transportation costs. |
