Summary: | A major challenge in designing protocols for wireless networks is to make them self-adaptive to the ever changing wireless environment. We present two adaptive power control schemes that adapt the transmission power based on the dynamic network conditions and node residual energy. In the first approach, all nodes use the same transmission power. In the second approach, nodes use independent transmission powers and operate in a purely distributed fashion. We show that through energy management the lifetime could be significantly extended. Our evaluation shows that adaptation leads to a further improvement of 15% to 50% both in end-to-end delay and in duty cycles of the nodes. |
