Summary:This paper describes the analysis and design of a spoke-type motor using ferrite permanent magnet (PM). In order to strengthen the manufacturing cost competitiveness, the improvement design is proposed with the goal of reducing the size and weight compared to the conventional model. Through the PM overhang structure and the shape optimization of the rotor and stator, the output power density is increased by 20%. The operation stability and mass productivity of the improved model are confirmed by analyzing the magnetization and demagnetization characteristics of the PM. The prototype is manufactured and the simulated results are verified experimentally.
