Description
Summary:Nowadays, there are many wind farms around the world. However, intermittent characteristics of wind power output can cause unbalanced grid condition between demand load and generation resources, especially in isolated area such as Jeju Island located in the Republic of Korea. Grid operator of Jeju Island has often curtailed wind power output for the stability of Jeju power system. Therefore, this paper proposes not only installation of hybrid energy storage system (HESS) combining lithium-ion battery with water electrolysis device (WED), but also its operation algorithm to save controlled wind power output. This system will be focused on supplying electrical power stably to WED by using wind power generation and lithium-ion battery, because the WED should be always turned on to prevent lifetime degradation. The proposed method will be applied to simulation model including wind turbine generator, lithium-ion battery, WED and power conversion systems. The simulation results will be carried out using PSCAD/EMTDC program.
