Summary:This paper addresses the problem of performance prediction and estimation for a multichannel coherence detector. The saddlepoint approximation is employed to approximate the empirical null distribution of the test statistics for the purpose of predicting the false alarm performance. The ability of the proposed method to achieve a prescribed false alarm rate is then examined for different background conditions using a Synthetic Aperture Sonar (SAS) imagery dataset.
