Summary: | The paper presents a preliminary analysis to verify the feasibility of a monitoring system for the physical characteristics of wireline channels, by means of Compressive Sampling (CS), for application of network visibility. In particular, a CS-based method for the estimation of the impulse response of the channel is proposed that could allow identification of impairments in the channel behavior. A simulation analysis was carried out using a channel model of a coaxial cable and the estimation error was evaluated for different down-sampling factors. The results show that the proposed method is capable of estimating the channel impulse response with an accuracy that could allow the detection of main channel impairments, also with severe down-sampling factors. |
