Summary: | This paper presents the design analysis of a dual negative metamaterial inspired antenna loaded with LC resonator for 5G wireless application. The structure of the proposed metamaterial unit cell is similar to an electric field coupled LC-resonator except that a parallel inductive strip is connected to it. This resulted final design gives the negative value of permittivity and permeability with a durable negative index which improves the performance of the antenna. The proposed metamaterial antenna is designed on a FR4 substrate with a thickness of 1.575 mm and a dielectric constant of 4.3. The electrical dimensions of this antenna are 0.32 λ 0.33 λ at a low frequency of 3.43 GHz. The resulted antenna gives a dual band property with a -10dB impedance bandwidth of 12.196% and 26.935% covering the bandwidth of 3.434 GHz to 3.88 GHz and from 5.59 GHz to 7.33 GHz respectively. The realized gains at the two resonant frequencies are 2.1 dB and 3.98 dB. The improvement of the antenna performance after connecting the inductive strip parallel to the LC resonator reveals the fact that this type of modification can increase the performance of patch antenna. |
