Summary:In this paper show the behavior of a DC electric arc in a Vacuum Arc Remelting (VAR) Furnace based on the results obtained from the numerical simulation performed from the finite volume method (FVM) using free software (Code Saturne). For the solution of the government equations that describe the phenomenon, an AISI 1018 steel electrode has been considered as a case study. Also an electric model in a software of electromagnetic transients (PSCAD) is proposed to coupling the electric and thermal characteristics in a process of remelting in this type of furnaces.
