Description
Summary:This paper aims at designing and developing an AC microgrid to be implemented at the Faculty of Engineering of the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF). Microgrids can be defined as an integrated system that involves distributed energy resources and various electric loads operating as an autonomous grid, whether parallel or islanded from the main power grid. One of the great advantages of working with microgrids is the possibility of testing devices and controls necessary for the development of smart grid, with lower risk and cost. In this context, the proposed system was modeled and simulated using PSIM software considering load, generation and storage existent at the Solar laboratory of the Faculty of Engineering, at UFJF. Focus was given to the design and simulation of power electronics devices. In this model the following cases were simulated: islanded system and grid-connected mode. Results show that, for dimensioned values, the microgrid can operate in both cases with stability in voltage and current levels, with a total harmonic distortion of 0.57% for voltage in islanded mode, indicating a good operation for the dimensioned system.
