Description
Summary:Multilevel converters are well-established in literature as topologies used in applications aiming to reduce current and voltage Total Harmonic Distortion (THD). This work proposes a current control loop for a 5-level three-phase inverter using Finite Control Set - Model Predictive Control (FCS-MPC). The adopted scheme allows the current control of a system composed of the inverter connected to a RL load, so that the phase currents of the load follow sinusoidal references whose amplitude can be adjusted. The optimal switching sequence is found by the minimization of a cost function that is calculated for the available voltage vectors. The used control method is straightforward, and the constraints can be adjusted in a simple manner during the project. The used method was able to maintain line voltage THD ratios below other techniques such as SHE-PWM, PD-PWM and CS-PWM.
