Summary:The paper first reviews the development of access switch architecture and the ASIC oriented architecture of access switches in detail. Based on the fast development of processor technology, we propose a scalable architecture of access switch and present a prototype LT-30 ATM access switch. In order to verify the correctness of the scalable architecture of the access switch, we have made some performance tests on the LT-30 switch. Lastly the performance test results are reported.
