Summary: | The paper studies the protection equipment of wind farms connected to the transmission or to the distribution network. The main goal is to study a wind farm equipped with static shunt compensator and STATCOM, integrated in a medium voltage network. The solution of the wind generator which uses squirrel cage induction generators has the advantage of low investment and maintenance costs. However, specific to induction machines is the high absorption of reactive power, in this case obviously, from the network. On the experimental laboratory model, the short-circuit currents are determined by the method of per units, depending on the reactance of the equipment in the transformer substation and the line, up to the point of common coupling. The methodology for setting or checking the adjustments of the protection relays is established, on an experimental laboratory model. The experimental determinations, for medium voltage faults on the lines radially connected to the main the line emerging from the wind farm, using the similarity relations, permit the determination of the electrical quantities from the real network. The modeling is performed on a laboratory network that allows the simulation of the faults in the lines, depending on the adjustments of the protection system. Finally, a comparison is made between the values designed for the real network and those resulting from the modeling on the network implemented in the laboratory. |
