Summary: | The paper analyses the isolation resistance, the dielectric absorption ratio and the polarization index of some common spark plugs used for spark ignition engines. The experimental analysis is performed on new, middle-life spark plugs and some at the end of their life, by measuring the isolation resistance with megohmmeters, at various test voltages. The quality of electrical insulation may also differ for new spark plugs. For a batch of used spark plugs and at the end of their life, an analysis of the isolation resistance, the dielectric absorption ratio and the polarization index was performed before and after two cleaning methods: mechanical and chemical. It was found that mechanical cleaning better improves the electrical performance of spark plugs compared to the chemical method. However, some of the spark plugs have irreversibly affected the quality of the electrical insulation, and the cleaning methods do not improve the electrical performance of the spark plugs. |
