Description
Summary:The next-generation television broadcasting based on Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) 3.0 has been commercially launched in South Korea and the US. Advanced technologies for audio/video codec and media content transmission in the new broadcast system can provide high-quality audiovisual services within the same amount of spectral resources as the 1 st generation digital television system. As with other wireless communication systems, the demand to improve the frequency efficiency in terrestrial broadcasting system is increasing day by day, so ATSC 3.0 includes several cutting-edge technologies for single frequency network (SFN) configuration. Thanks to these SFN-friendly features, it is possible to elaborately design and manage an SFN topology that can cover a vast area with only one frequency band. On-Channel Repeater (OCR) does not require additional frequency resources, making it essential for cost-effective deployment of SFN. In this paper, we introduce an implemented OCR, deployment, and field test results of OCR.
