Description
Summary:The paper reports a theoretical model for the effects of size quantization of anisotropic carriers in quasi-one dimensional electronic systems like Bi cylindrical nanowires embedded in a dielectric matrix. The anisotropy of the bulk energy spectrum is shown to enhance considerable the effect of size quantization due to the peculiarities of anisotropic carrier wave propagation like caustics in geometrical optics. Anisotropy induced leads to the orbital splitting of carriers energy subbands in nanowires.
