Summary: | Students' cognitive engagement in the pre-class learning determines the level of pre-class individual learning and the effect of classroom teaching. Given the unique features and significant role of pre-class learning, this study examined the influencing factors of cognitive engagement in pre-class of flipped classroom. Data were collected from thirty-eight junior students who enrolled in information technology and curriculum integration of a university in Central China by using experience sampling method. Hierarchical linear model analysis was employed as the primary method to analyze the relationships among individual factors, learning environment perceptions and cognitive engagement in the pre-class of flipped courses. This study found that self-efficacy and the perception of peer support had a significant positive effect on cognitive engagement. In addition, autonomous motivation played a mediate role on the effect of perception of peer support on cognitive engagement. The suggestions were provided to improve the cognitive engagement during the pre-class learning and the further improvement of the research were discussed. |
