Summary: | Solar cells constitute an important and promising clean energy technology. The solar conversion efficiency is however small. One way to improve this latter is to insert an intermediate band (IB) between valence and conduction bands making what is called an Intermediate Band Solar Cell (IBSC). We propose, in this work, a comparative study of the efficiency between two solar cells: a conventional cell and an IBSC with one intermediate band using detailed balance model. The obtained results show that the intermediate band solar cell is much better than conventional cell and has the promising efficiency of 63 percent. |
