A Planar-Like Sensor Array for Efficient Direction-of-Arrival Estimation

In this letter, we propose an improved variable step size (VSS) least mean square (LMS) technique by exploiting the planar-like sensor array. The improved VSS-LMS method makes use of all the available samples for gradient estimation. This accelerates the convergence rate of the proposed method. Furt...

description In this letter, we propose an improved variable step size (VSS) least mean square (LMS) technique by exploiting the planar-like sensor array. The improved VSS-LMS method makes use of all the available samples for gradient estimation. This accelerates the convergence rate of the proposed method. Furthermore, the proposed beamforming method is deployed to estimate multiple narrow-band signals arriving from a far field. This technique avoids the prior information of source number estimation and eigenvalue decomposition. Finally, computer simulations are presented to evaluate the proposed method's efficacy.
