Summary: | Short-period undulators formed by four alternating longitudinally and radially magnetized rare-earth helices can create a high transverse field near the axis. Such undulators can provide a larger average oscillatory electron velocity than Halbach planar undulators and, in addition, the confinement of particles along both transverse coordinates. Hybrid undulators formed by two longitudinally pre-magnetized rare-earth and steel helices are easier to implement. Both types of micro-undulators seem promising for the creation of compact XFELs. |
