Summary:This paper presents methodology for determining the optimal automation level of medium voltage (MV) distribution network (DN). Proposed methodology is based on heuristic combinatory search of scenarios for automation, as well as real modeling of network and fault management procedure. The methodology has been tested on real city network of town Belgrade. Obtained results have proven that proposed methodology is a powerful tool for determination of optimal level of investments into automation of MV network and its optimal design. (5 pages)
