Summary: | This paper reports the case of decapitation during suicidal hanging of an 82 yr old male weighing 48 kg. He reportedly jumped into a well almost 25 feet deep with a thick jute rope tied around his neck. External findings included complete transection of the neck at the level of C2-C3 vertebral body. Decapitation is an infrequent complication of hanging. The cause for such a rare event can be attributed to the inelasticity of the rope and fall of several meters. |
