Summary: | The clinical features of ocular myopathy (chronic progressive external ophthalmoplegia) are described and the etiopathogenesis of the disease is briefly discussed.
The importance of ptosis surgery with fixation of the eyelid to the fronta-lis muscle is emphasized. Although hypocorrective for safety reasons, this procedure reduces the efforts to overcome the visual impairment caused by ptosis, thereby improving the patient's quality of life.
The knowledge acquired in 30 cases is reported and the surgical treatment, including indications, postoperative results, recurrences, reoperations and complications, is described. |
