Summary: | A technique is outlined for evaluating the suitability of second-order active filter sections for variable control. A sensitivity criterion is discussed and an optimum suggested, based upon practical engineering requirements. The implementation of variable networks to achieve this optimum performance is restricted by the lack of available components but a proposal is made where, by the combination of well-known semiconductors, a device may be constructed which goes some way to solving this problem.
The device facilitates linear control of network parameters over a wide dynamic range and because it is current-controlled enables time-varying and adaptive systems to be implemented. The limits of semiconductor technology impose certain restrictions on its performance. An adaptive filter scheme is outlined to illustrate one application. |
