Description
Summary:The author proposes a double smoothing algorithm for the suppression of cross-terms in the pseudo-Wigner distribution estimate of multi-component signals. Since cross-terms are oscillatory and attain negative values, an 'adaptive' masking scheme has proven useful in locating and suppressing these interference terms. To smooth out noise, this masking scheme is followed by a linear filter. The advantage of this successive smoothing lies in the fact that the degree of linear smoothing is kept to a minimum, and thus more 'non-stationarities' are preserved. Experimental results on simulated data and real speech are presented.
