Summary: | Detrended fluctuation analysis is applied to the mean monthly temperature values, over different heights of the global troposphere, during 1980-2004, to search for self-similarity properties. The results show that the tropospheric temperature anomalies obey persistent long-range power-law correlations for time-scales longer than about four months and shorter than about six years. This suggests that the temperature fluctuations over small time periods (i.e. a few months) are related to those over longer time periods (i.e. a few years). In addition, the long-range power-law persistence in the global tropospheric temperature fluctuations becomes stronger as the altitude increases. |
