STEPWISE INTERCALATION OF PIPERJDINE IN LAYERED α- AND γ- HAFNIUM PHOSPHATE

The mechanism of intercalation of piperidine in α-hafnium phosphate, Hf(HPO 4 ;V) 2 H 2 O (dooz = 7.6 Ȧ) and γ-hafnium phosphate, Hf(P0 4 )(H 2 P0 4 ) 2H 2 0 (doo2 - 12.1 Ȧ), has been investigated by the batch method. Saturated phases were not obtained. The reactions take place stepwise with the fin...

Description
Summary:The mechanism of intercalation of piperidine in α-hafnium phosphate, Hf(HPO 4 ;V) 2 H 2 O (dooz = 7.6 Ȧ) and γ-hafnium phosphate, Hf(P0 4 )(H 2 P0 4 ) 2H 2 0 (doo2 - 12.1 Ȧ), has been investigated by the batch method. Saturated phases were not obtained. The reactions take place stepwise with the final formation of the compounds Hf(HPO 4 ) 2 C 5 H 11 N H 2 O and Hf[P0 4 )(H 2 P0 4 )C 5 H 11 N 2H 2 0. In the α-HfP case, no intermediate phases have been detected but in the γ-HfP case, a new phase, Hf(PO 4 )(H 2 PO 4 )0.38C 5 H 11 N 2H 2 O, was isolated The characterization of the intercalates was made by chemical and thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction and 1R spectroscopy. Materials with a monolaminar arrangement of amine molecules in the phosphate interlayer region were obtained and the results are compared to those described using different intercalation conditions.
