Description
Summary:In North-West Russia a number of unique deposits of titanium and rare-metal minerals are located. By the example of comprehensive processing of such minerals of the Kola peninsula the organisation of a regional beneficiation and metallurgical complex is considered. The complex is based on fundamental and applied research and provides total extraction of valuable components and efficient waste utilization with the production of extra marketable products. In mineral processing by the flowsheet suggested, niobium, tantalum and titanium are extracted in the form of various oxide, fluoride and sulphate compounds which are of both scientific and practical interest. The experience of organising regional complexes may be propagated to other regions with a greater density of deposits.
