Summary: | A numerical model of an erbium doped fibre laser (EDFL) is applied to the description of the system dynamic behaviour. In particular, the transient and steady regimes after pump power switch-on are analysed, studying the spatial and temporal evolution of the main parameters of the system. With this information, the applicability of the usual hypothesis employed in the literature, where simpler and more tractable models are derived (laser and pump power and population inversion constants along all the active medium), is analysed in order to study their accuracy. The characterization method described in previous work has been considered, and the errors associated with such a simplification detailed, as well as defining optimum experimental conditions that minimize the errors due to the simplified model hypothesis. |
