Description
Summary:The power of the plasma torch, its reliability, overall dimensions and weight, as well as technological possibilities are determined by the efficiency of cooling thermally stressed elements, i.e. the plasma-forming nozzle and the electrode. In Ref. 1, the authors reported on the effect of polarity on the heat input into the plasma-shaping nozzle of the plasma torch. The results show that in operation of the plasma torch at straight polarity, the heat load on the nozzle, with other conditions being equal, is considerably higher than at reversed polarity. It is assumed that the thermal load on the plasma-forming nozzle is determined by heat transfer from part of the column of the constricted arc, situated inside the plasma torch.
