Examining the kinetics of phase transformations using a KAMAT analyser to optimise welding technology

The KAMAT computer analyser of materials is designed for examining structural and phase transformations in materials during heating, cooling, isothermal holding and thermal cycling. Using small specimens of the examined material, the analyser makes it possible to simulate thermal cycles from those t...

description The KAMAT computer analyser of materials is designed for examining structural and phase transformations in materials during heating, cooling, isothermal holding and thermal cycling. Using small specimens of the examined material, the analyser makes it possible to simulate thermal cycles from those taking place in any area of the heat affected zone (HAZ) of welded joints to heat treatment of large components. Using dilatometric and thermal methods, it is possible to determine reliably the temperature ranges of phase transitions, the type and volume fraction of the resultant structure, and construct isothermal and anisothermal diagrams of phase transformations. The experimental material was cast iron with nodular graphite.
