Summary: | Forest management practices and systems are monitored with respect to their environmental, economic, and social impacts for forest certification. This is accomplished by a third party auditor. Certification aims to change forest management practices in response to a consumer audience. This policy based evaluation of certification approaches considers the top-down approach of regulation, and the bottom-up approach of popular demand. In the development of forest certification, the contributions of stakeholders, categorization criteria, information resources, and change management are considered. A successful certification program should include all participants in the forest products industry. |
