Description
Summary:Colonial agents introduced sport to Tanzania in the 1920s as part of the package of cultural imperialism and as a medium of socialisation, solace and bonding among themselves in distant lands. Tanzanians adapted Western sport to suit their own needs - policy implementation, cultural identity, promotion of national unity and modernisation. Sport is pursued and valued not only as an end in itself, but also because it represents a complex of meanings in connection with cultural restoration and modernisation, and will assist the eventual integration of Tanzania into the "global village of sport".
