A Novel Modified Head-Shaped Monopole Antenna for UWB Applications

This paper proposes a new monopole antenna for ultrawideband (UWB) applications. The frequency band is considered 3.1-10.6 GHz, which has been approved by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) as a commercial UWB band. The proposed antenna has a small size of 33 × 33 mm 2 fed by a microstrip l...

description This paper proposes a new monopole antenna for ultrawideband (UWB) applications. The frequency band is considered 3.1-10.6 GHz, which has been approved by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) as a commercial UWB band. The proposed antenna has a small size of 33 × 33 mm 2 fed by a microstrip line and provides an impedance bandwidth as high as 120% (3 GHz-12 GHz) at a center frequency of 7.5 GHz for S 11 < −10 dB. The impedance bandwidth of the antenna is improved by creating two circular slots in patch of monopole antenna. Various mobile communication services such as WLAN (5 GHz), WIMAX (3.4 GHz), and UWB can be easily covered by the proposed antenna simultaneously.
