Description
Summary:In order to develop culturally sensitive interventions for working with immigrant families, family therapists need a framework from which to work. The objective of this article is to overview how a cultural diagnostic interview format differs from the traditional diagnostic interview approach that is often employed during the initial phases of therapy. The utility of the cultural interview for developing appropriate therapeutic intervention is demonstrated through the vignettes of several immigrants from different lands who shared their emigration stories with graduate students from a mid-western university in the United States.
