Summary: | This study explored the role of resistance of divorcing couples in their decision to use divorce mediation. The sample comprised 166 Polish divorcing couples with 86 mediation and 80 non-mediation ones. Logistic regression analysis showed that of all the independent variables considered in this study, the most significant predictors of couples' decision to enter into mediation were two components of resistance: wife's and husband's "disbelief in the efficiency of mediation." The third significant predictor was the wife's assessment of the intensity of marital conflict. The analyses also showed that husbands revealed more reluctance to the involvement of a third party in their divorce conflicts than wives. |
