Description
Summary:The World Wide Web has become a compelling mechanism for access to medical libraries and evidence-based databases. However, the current Web lacks the Semantic machinery to expose and reason with detailed knowledge. The Semantic Web can provide this by making formal knowledge available across Web sites, creating opportunities for collaborative discovery. This article discusses emerging Semantic Web technologies and how they can be applied to digital libraries. Examples are drawn from cross-disciplinary research into maternal health in developing nations being conducted by IMMPACT (The Initiative for Maternal Mortality Programme Assessment). doi:10.1300/J383v04n01_11
