Summary:New approximation procedures are presented for obtaining the transverse integrated scalar flux for the diffusive scattering of an initially unidirectional particle beam. The approach is based on the characteristic similarity properties of the diffusion dynamics and provides direct and simple approximations in good agreement with previous results obtained by systematic expansion techniques. A detailed numerical investigation of the diffusion dynamics is also made, which benchmarks and illustrates the good accuracy of the analytical results.
