Summary: | The method developed by Roy and subsequently used by Guigou and Van Delft and Nijkamp for selecting one plan from a set of alternatives, when each alternative is evaluated on a set of criteria, is modified to allow the alternatives to be mapped into a space so that their relative positions are shown. Multidimensional scaling is used to produce the mapping. To illustrate the new procedure Guigou's original data and an empirical data set for Singapore are analyzed. The latter problem concerns the selection of an alternate transit system from a set of six using eight criteria. An examination of the influence of altering the relative importance of the criteria is included. |
