Summary: | The social structure of contemporary Russian society is characterized by extreme instability at the level of the processes taking place within and among social groups, as well as at the level of individuals' awareness of their places in the system formed by the social hierarchy. The boundaries between traditional population groups are becoming increasingly vague, and new kinds of intergroup integration based on types of property, income, participation in power structures, and social self-identification are emerging.
