A diode-pumped Nd:YVO4 thin disk laser with a hetero-composite gain element and dual-face cooling
We report on the first thin disk laser simultaneously cooled on two disk faces by the highly thermally conductive, optically transparent, single-crystalline medium, silicon carbide (SiC). The diode-pumped laser, based on a hetero-composite {SiC/Nd:YVO4/SiC} gain element, operated with a 26% slope ef...

Summary: | We report on the first thin disk laser simultaneously cooled on two disk faces by the highly thermally conductive, optically transparent, single-crystalline medium, silicon carbide (SiC). The diode-pumped laser, based on a hetero-composite {SiC/Nd:YVO4/SiC} gain element, operated with a 26% slope efficiency in this first proof-of-concept experiment. Based on the performed Findlay-Clay analysis, the relatively low efficiency was attributed to high intracavity passive losses introduced by SiC components. |
