Summary: | In this study, the use of Indian traditional dyes (ITD) for the application of Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSC) starting from its fabrication, characterization and its photovoltaic properties were systematically investigated. In addition, a comparative study and performance analysis of ITD-DSSC and N3-DSSC was performed and the test results obtained were used for the precise observation for improving the efficiency of the cell. To enhance the electrical properties with reduced recombination effect and to optimize the light harvesting, a titanium dioxide (TiO2) thin layer is embedded between a fluorine doped tin oxide (FTO glass) photoanode and substrate. The realized DSSC shows a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 2.77% for (TiO2/N3/lithium-iodide/platinum) structure, and 2% PCE for (TiO2/ITD/lithium-iodide/platinum) structure. Moreover, parameters inducing extraction technique of Indian dyes, an effect of series resistance and operation mechanism of DSSC are discussed to present the future prospects of step-wise development in novel technology. |
