Summary: | Ti6Al4V-Al3Ti Laminated Composites exhibit excellent anti-penetration performance due to low density, high specific strength and unique failure mode. However, numerous studies showed that many defects existed in the Ti-Al3Ti laminated composites, and seriously effect its anti-penetration performance. In this paper, finite element analysis was used to studied the effects of defects (microcracks, pores, residual stress, etc) on the anti-penetration performance of Ti6Al4V-Al3Ti Laminated Composites. The results showed that the Ti6Al4V-Al3Ti Laminated Composites exhibited the better comprehensive performance as the percentage of Al increased under the velocity of projectile was less than 1000 m s−1. The pores and microcracks resulted in the anti-penetration performance deterioration of Ti6Al4V-Al3Ti Laminated Composites; The low magnitude of residual stress enhanced the anti-penetration performance of Ti6Al4V-Al3Ti Laminated Composites. However, the high level residual stress (more than 41.6 MPa) resulted in the decreases of the anti-penetration performance of Ti6Al4V-Al3Ti composite significantly. |
