Description
Summary:This study has been presented on the corrosion behavior ofAtmospheric Plasma Sprayed (APS) flyash based composite coatingson base material of Al-6061 aluminum alloy. Composite coatings offlyash-Al2O3 and flyash-SiCwere subjected to potentiodynamic polarization and Salt spray corrosion testto characterize the corrosion behaviorin NaCl aqueous solution. Wear mechanisms of corroded surfaces wereobserved via SEM micrographs. The experimental results indicate that the combination of flyash-SiC coatings had anexcellent corrosive resistantwhen compared with the uncoated and flyash-Al2O3coated Al-6061 for a given test duration. While, theflyash-Al2O3composite coating was inferior and ineffective against corrosion toAl-6061base material due to the highly vulnerable to localized damage and formation of passive layer on the surface of coating which suppress the corrosion resistance.
