Summary: | Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTMAB) surfactant was employed as a corrosion inhibitor for reinforcing steel in this work. The corrosion behavior of the steel in the simulated polluted concrete pore (SPCP) solution with 0.1 M NaCl and pH11.00 and the corrosion inhibition effect of CTMAB were investigated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and polarization curve measurements. The morphologies and compositions of the steel surface were characterized by Electron Micro-Probe Analyzer and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The results showed that severe pitting corrosion of the steel in the SPCP solution took place. CTMAB with an appropriate concentration could effectively control the steel corrosion. The inhibition efficiency of CTMAB reached 87.6% at the optimum concentration of 0.005 M. CTMAB acted as an adsorption type inhibitor and improved the corrosion resistance of the steel by forming an adsorption film on the steel surface. |
