Summary: | Thermal spraying is one of the most versatile techniques that have been used for the application of coatings to protect the wear components by abrasion, adhesion, erosion, corrosion and fatigue. In this article the influence of additions of nanostructured and microstructured powders in the mechanical properties of WC-Co bimodal coatings applied by high speed oxy-fuel (HVOF) was analyzed. The coatings were obtained from a milling process and subsequently deposited on substrates of AISI 304 steel using a hybrid high-speed thermal spray gun. The microstructure was studied by scanning electron microscopy, the wear resistance was realized through a Pin-On-Disc tribometer, additionally the vickers microhardness was measured transversely. The effects of nanostructured phase content on the microstructure and wear resistance of the coating were determined. The combination of WC-Co micro and nanostructured powder in the coatings produced showed an increase in mechanical properties. |
