Description
Summary:The electrochemical and optical properties of ZnO nanowires modified with Ag nanoparticles by electrodeposition are studied. The results of cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry show that the radiated, well-crystallized ZnO-nanowire electrode, with a spacial architecture, allows fast Ag(I) ion diffusion, rapid electron transfer, and high Ag deposition rate. Numerous Ag nanoparticles deposited on the nanowires induce a redshift of 0.23 eV in the ZnO optical bandgap while without causing a large decrease in optical absorption intensity. However, a great decrease in photoluminescence intensity occurs in the modified structure, mainly resulting from the charge transfer between ZnO and Ag. The composite structure has promising applications in photocatalysis and photovoltaics.
